News Archive - September 2009Northampton Reasserts City Aspirations A VISION for Northampton's growth from a town into a city has been unveiled by Northampton Borough Council, Northamptonshire County Council and the West Northamptonshire Development Corporation. 'The Market City' is a vision designed to create a sense of direction for Northampton as it grows over the next few years with a population growing to the same size as Cardiff and Leicester. The Market City concept is an aspiration for Northampton to become a modern, competitive city, able to prosper in a fast-changing economic climate; a place that will be less than 45 minutes by train from London, says the Council. “Northampton needs to recapture the confidence and aspiration of previous generations,” says Council leader Tony Woods. “We now have to create the economic, social and physical environment that will attract people to come and live in Northampton, to invest in new businesses and create new jobs – a place to live, work and play.” « |
